Product Description
What is Shea Butter?
Aseda Shea Butter is extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree (Butyrospermum parkii), native to the Savannah’s of Africa. The origin of the English word “Shea” is “sii’, a word from the Bambara language spoken in Mali which means, ‘sacred tree’. The Shea tree is treasured for it’s nurturing components and magnificence of growth. Growing to heights of 60 feet, living for up to 200 years and flowering only after 20 years of life, Shea nuts are a special aspect of the tree. Shea nuts are traditionally harvested by women, crushed and then boiled to extract the Shea butter. These wild harvested, hand processed Shea nuts are unique only to certain regions and protected areas of Africa. These wild trees along with the potent skin benefits of the nuts are what make Shea butter special. There is an important distinction to be made between wild crafted Aseda Shea Butter produced from wild Shea trees as referenced here, and machined processed Shea butter, produced from plantation based tree farms from other areas of Africa. In the hot Sahara or Savannah, Shea butter protects the skin from the sun and dehydration. For millennia people have used Shea butter to protect their largest and most vital organ, the skin, from the drying winds and sun. The uses range from healing numerous types of skin problems including minor cuts and burns to daily health and beauty regimens for youthful skin. Aseda carries the highest and purest quality of Shea butter, from ancient old growth trees, produced by a woman owned co-op, located in an ancient and pristine forest of Ghana. We present to you-Aseda Shea Butter.
